Okay, so this post is almost 2 months overdue, but my aunt in Chicago keeps mentioning that I've never posted about my trip to Hawaii, so here you go!
Back in early September my friend called me one day and said, "How would you and April like to go to Hawaii in February for a girls' trip and stay at my family vacation house? The fares are really cheap right now and it will be so nice to get away from Utah at that time of year". I was with April at the time she called and we both looked at each other like, "Really? Just up and leave our families and go hang out in Hawaii for a week relaxing? No, we couldn't possibly do that!". Well, after talking to our husbands, who both thought it was an amazing idea, we decided to go for it!
As it got closer and closer I kept wondering what on earth I was doing. I really didn't want to go and leave my family. I kept telling Todd that I was going to cancel and not go because I didn't feel like I should. I felt totally selfish thinking of going and having fun without my family while Todd slaved away at work and took care of the kids. Todd kept telling me that I needed to do it and they would be okay without me, and that it would be really good for me to go and get away and hang out with some amazing ladies and have fun. (Have I mentioned that I have the most amazing and supportive husband on the planet?)
When the time finally came to go I felt really peaceful about it. I ended up having such an amazing time! The women we went with are such incredible women!! It was so fun to get to know some of them better.
Some of us went for a walk on the beach every morning. We didn't do many touristy things while we were there, but spent most of the time reading, laying out on the beach, talking and laughing (and even crying). I spent a lot of time thinking about who I am as a person and how I can improve as a wife, mother, and daughter of God.
This was our view from the house.
I took several books with me to read. One of them was a book by Deepak Chopra called "The Spontaneous Fulfillment of Desire" that my sister in law wanted me to read about quantum physics. I love stuff like that so it was fascinating. I also took the Book of Mormon with me to read. It is by far my favorite book to read because I learn something new every time and I can really feel the Spirit when I read that book. One morning as we were on our walk I walked ahead of the others and started singing "How Great Thou Art". I love the words to that song and as I started singing, looking at the beautiful world that I was surrounded by I started to cry. I am so grateful for the beauty that I'm able to see and for the great life that I have.
This was our view every morning. Pretty incredible!
On our morning walks we saw turtles, sea lions, and even a pig!
I didn't realize that I would have such a wonderful time being away from my family, but it was really good for me to step out of my mom role for awhile and just be. My family survived just fine without me (a little too well I must say), and I felt energized and nourished when I came home.
